Lue Janson Selected as District Classified Employee of the Year
The Lowell Joint School District is pleased to announce that Lue Janson has been selected as the District’s 2012 Classified School Employee of the Year. Mrs. Janson serves as a Special Education Instructional Aide in the upper-grade Special Day Class at Olita Elementary School. |

Congratulations to Allison Fonti, second-grade teacher at Jordan Elementary School. Mrs. Fonti recently submitted a request through the Samsung Foundation and was selected as the winner from the state of California. |

2011/12 State Budget Update
With the State budget "trigger" cuts having been recently enacted by the California Department of Finance, the District will lose approximately $40,000 in General Fund monies and $50,000 in student transportation funds for the 2011/12 school year. |

El Portal Teachers Receive 2012 Target Field Trip Grant
Congratulations to Marci Pinney and Teresa Herman, third-grade teachers for receiving the Target Field Trip grant that will provide a free field trip for El Portal third graders to the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach during February. |

State Law Increases Age for Students Entering Kindergarten
Students will have to be five years old on or before November 1, 2012, in order to enter Kindergarten in the 2012/13 school year. |

District to Offer Transitional Kindergarten Program Beginning in the 2012/13 School Year
At the Board meeting on Tuesday, November 8, 2011, the Board of Trustees unanimously approved the Transitional Kindergarten program to begin in the 2012/13 school year. The program is designed for students who will turn five years of age between November 2, 2012, and January 30, 2013. |

Lowell Joint School District Remains Top Achieving School District
The Lowell Joint School District continues to be the highest achieving school district in the area as indicated by the Academic Performance Index scores recently released by the California Department of Education. |
